The two search engine training courses that have proved most popular are as follows:

1) Managing search engine optimisation in-house

This course is designed to train in-house marketing personnel the fundamentals of creating successful search engine optimisation and improving a website's visibility to prospective customers. It includes these key elements:

• identifying the objectives for web traffic to a site
• keyword research
• competitor analysis and identifying the factors required to achieve a successful ranking
• building the optimisation into a website
• dealing with frames, Flash and other design factors

• maintaining and developing search engine rankings.

This course is usually one full day, followed up by one or more half day support sessions.

2) Taking advantage of search engines in business

Using search engines for research can be a major resource for a business, but the search tools need to be handled effectively by users to avoid wastage of time or incorrect or unreliable information being found.

This course is designed to equip employees at any level with the skills to use search engines to maximum effect. It covers the following elements:

• which are the major search tools
• identifying the differences between search engines, directories and metasearch tools
• using simple search techniques
• advanced searching practices
• applying different search tools for particular uses
• assessing the quality of results being found.

This course can be a half day or full day training session and can be followed up by a further half-day session. It includes practical examples related to the specific business needs of the trainees.

Each course is run by Clive Hawkins, the founder and owner of the web search workshop. Clive has many years experience in using search tools and marketing websites within business and he has conducted in-house training programmes to support staff who need to use search tools in their job.
